Rangers fans have raved about key Gers player Steven Davis for his outstanding performance in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox.

Filip Helander scored the only goal of the game, sending a firm header beyond Joe Hart in the 66th minute from an excellent Borna Barisic corner.

There were a few hairy moments for the Gers in the closing stages of the game but they held on to take all three points from the first Old Firm of the 2021/22 campaign.

It wasn’t a vintage Rangers display but a number of individuals impressed.

Robby McCrorie was very solid when called upon in his first Premiership appearance for the club, while Leon Balogun did so well as a makeshift right-back that he scooped the Man of the Match award.

However, many fans also heaped praise on midfield maestro Steven Davis.

It took the 36-year-old a little while to settle into the game, with several passes going astray in the early stages of the first half.

Once he found his range, though, he was superb.

He was typically calm and efficient in possession, picked up countless loose balls and forced errors out of Celtic players through sheer work-rate and tenacity.

Despite his age, the Northern Ireland international was still buzzing around in the closing stages of the game, with an interception and run which resulted in a Fashion Sakala chance a particular standout passage of play.

Supporters continue to be blown away by how much the veteran offers and he was showered with praise on social media.
