Rangers crushed Aberdeen in a swashbuckling attacking display at Ibrox as the Gers hit the Dons for five without reply.
The performance was up there with Rangers’ best team performances this campaign, and the club’s fans were quite rightly revelling in the scoreline after poor results against the Dons last season.
In contrast, Aberdeen fans have been absolutely raging about the result which saw them drop down to 4th, seven points off Rangers.
Ok @CormackDavie sorry to interrupt your fun in the sun but you've disappeared off Twitter since things have gone tits up but the Don's fans need to no why you and Milne gave Mcinnes his new contract. I'm sitting outside ibrox on the bus 5-0 down 15mins to go it's embarrassing

Defies logic the new contract before a ball was kicked. Crowds falling fast, apathy setting in, dangerous for a club with a new ground to pay for.

Announce deflection of naming floodlights at training ground after former players

Writing was on the wall when we signed an injured Bryson and Curtis main. Paying £12k a week on these 2 players. That’s where my DNA money is going. Well not any longer. It’s getting cancelled and I guarantee u there will be hundreds if not thousands cancelling until Del is gone

It’s fair to say our northeast rivals were not a happy bunch after having to trudge back up north with the 5-0 defeat fresh in their minds.
The result has turned the pressure up on Derek McInnes, who came under heavy fire from Dons fans after being knocked out of the Betfred Cup by Hearts on penalties.
McInnes of course famously turned down a move to Ibrox prior to Steven Gerrard taking over at Rangers, with many Gers fans now breathing a sigh of relief.
In fairness to the Dons boss, Rangers were a class apart against Aberdeen and McInnes reluctantly admitted there’s a real gulf in quality between the two sides [Scottish Sun].

It felt good for supporters to finally put Aberdeen back in their place after niggling, tight, physical battles over the last few seasons.
But for many of their fans, the 5-0 humping at the hands of Rangers was the final straw for Derek McInnes.
