Abdallah Sima’s two-word response to Rangers Champions League bid raises transfer hopes

The Rangers team deserve huge credit for earning a draw in their Champions League qualifier with Dynamo Kiev.

But it’s clear the Ibrox side know that the job isn’t done yet with the Champions League QR3 clash neatly poised at 1-1 following Cyriel Dessers’ last minute equaliser.

In what was a spirited display by Rangers, the result and performance has raised hopes that the club might well be able to secure the near £30m on offer for Champions League qualification.

And one player in Abdallah Sima – whose return to Ibrox could depend on such a fortune – has just chimed in on Instagram.

Sima responds to Diomande

Mohamed Diomande is emerging as a key player in the middle of the park for Rangers.

The Ivorian technician covered every blade of grass in Poland and is fast becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet at Ibrox.

The West African midfielder took to Instagram after the match to assure fans that the ‘job’s not finished’ with the full focus on overcoming Dynamo in Glasgow next week.

But it is one of the comments on the post which will excite Rangers fans.

Abdallah Sima commented back to Mohamed Diomande ‘Mon Gars’ via his official account and at the time of writing has almost 400 likes on the response.

The Brighton forward is currently back at the south coast club but Rangers have been pretty clear that they want to bring the Senegalese forward back to Glasgow.

Champions League boost in Sima hunt

The Abdallah Sima comment comes at an interesting time for Rangers in the transfer window.

Philippe Clement has been clear that Rangers have two different strategies for the final furlong of the window dependent on whether or not the club qualifies for the Champions League.

This suggests that who Rangers move for before the window slams shut will depend on what European competition they play in this season.

As in the case of Hannibal Mejbri, a swoop for Abdallah Sima could very much depend on qualification for the Champions League.

Gers manager Clement hinted as much when the Belgian discussed the situation with Sima earlier in the summer.

“I’ve been in touch with him, of course,” Clement said in July.

“He’s like one of my sons. Abda loves the club. Abda loves the way of playing we had last season and his role in that. He loved his teammates and the staff.

“But at the end of the day, Brighton is the owner so it’s all about the money then. At the moment it’s not possible.

“But we will see along the way if there comes a possibility because we would love to get him back. We will see if it is possible.”

Abdallah Sima netted 16 goals in 39 games for Rangers last season despite suffering a serious injury at the turn of the year.
