Rangers star Ianis Hagi has resoundingly silenced the critics in his homeland as the Romanian midfielder nets a late winner for his country.

The playmaker came off the bench to score an 85th minute winner in the 3-2 home win over Macedonia as the Tricolorii got their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a flyer.

The playmaker – who is the son of Romania’s greatest ever export Gheorghe Hagi – even did the shush celebration in response to his critics.

This is Hagi’s first international strike in 15 Romania caps with the 22-year-old routinely subjected to much negative coverage in his homeland.

Being his father’s son comes with is own challenges in Hagi’s homeland with many pinning the hopes of a nation on the youngster.

Hagi’s development this season has been clear to see and following a spell with Romania’s U21s, Rangers fans will be delighted to see him take a big step on the international stage too.

The ex-Fiorentina and Genk midfielder is only 22 and this may well act as the catalyst for him going on to achieve bigger things with Romania in the future.

Hagi – who has an impressive haul of seven goals and 12 assists this season – has also been linked with a move out of Ibrox this week.

According to reports in Italy, Lazio are preparing a £9m summer move for the midfielder [La Lazio Siamo Noi] who is beginning to blossom and it known to be happy at Rangers.

Should Hagi continue to impress then £9m won’t be anywhere near enough for an attacking midfielder once touted as amongst the brightest talents Europe has to offer.
