Barry Ferguson might be doing a solid job as Rangers manager but with US investment on the horizon, it’s unknown if the Scotsman will take the reins permanently.
Rangers are on the verge of a US buyout led by 49ers Enterprises and healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh with some big decisions to be made before a manager is considered.
Rangers are hunting for a new sporting director, something confirmed by CEO Patrick Stewart earlier in the season, with a decision on the next Rangers manager to come after that appointment.
Andy Halliday reckons Barry Ferguson is up against it to prove to the prospective new Rangers ownership that he’s the man for the job at Ibrox.
But 49ers chief Paraag Marathe risks scoring a massive early own goal with the fans if the Americans opt for one high-profile name which has been doing the rounds recently.

Red Bull manager’s name does Rangers rounds after sacking
49ers Enterprises have close links to Red Bull and even sold off part of their Leeds United shareholding to the energy drinks giant.
As a result, Rangers News understands that Red Bull involvement at Rangers is not out of the picture with the Austrian drinks conglomerate keeping a close eye on developments at Ibrox.
The links to Red Bull have had us musing over former Dortmund manager Marco Rose before, the German coach having been Dortmund boss during that famous Europa League defeat to Rangers in 2022.
Now, Rose is looking for a new job after RB Leipzig sacked the 48-year-old after around two and a half years in charge at the Bundesliga outfit.
Rose is considered a talented German coach and also worked with Red Bull in Austria with RB Salzburg.
But before any links to Rangers are realised, the 49ers ought to take a look at some photos of the German after he took RB Salzburg to Celtic Park in 2018.
Call it petty, but it appears Rose has already burned any bridges with the Rangers support and might actually be a Celtic fan.
Marco Rose would be massive early 49ers Rangers own goal
Marco Rose might have some sizeable European pedigree but it’s fair to say there are doubts that he understands what it takes to win at Rangers.
An appointment very much in the Philippe Clement mould, winning is all that matters at Ibrox and the German doesn’t exactly have an outstanding track record of that in his previous jobs.
If anything, Clement was a better candidate at the time of his appointment than Rose currently is, or ever was.
But it’s not just healthy scepticism over Rose’s C.V or his lack of understanding of the nuances of Scottish football which will have Rangers fans raising eyebrows.
Images of the German manager swanning around Celtic Park wearing a Celtic scarf and hat guarantee instant ammunition the moment things start to go wrong in Glasgow.

The German manager wore the Celtic gear during his time at RB Salzburg, parading around Parkhead wearing it after beating Celtic 2-1 in the Europa League back in December 2018.
Rose also overcame Brendan Rodgers’ previous Celtic side earlier in the competition’s group stages, hammering the Parkhead side 3-1 in Germany.
