Reported summer Rangers target Shon Weissman tasted victory against Scotland last night as the 24-year-old striker’s Israel side ran out 1-0 winners.
The Real Vallodolid striker started the match against Steve Clarke’s side, with the only goal of the game coming from compatriot and Shakhtar Donetsk star Manor Soloman.
Weissman would play the full 90 minutes as Scotland’s World Cup qualification hopes were dashed by missing out on a guaranteed playoff place in the UEFA Nations League.
The former Maccabi Haifa striker was linked with a move to Rangers in the summer after an impressive season with Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC.
Weissman had set the Austrian Bundesliga alight in what proved to be a solitary season with the Wolfsberg-based club, netting 37 goals in total for Wolfsberger in all competitions.
The Ibrox club were linked with a move for the striker alongside Old Firm rivals Celtic as well as German side FC Schalke 04 and La Liga side Valladolid [Pucela Fichajes].
Weissman had previously been linked with a £4.5m move to Celtic [Scotsman] earlier in the year.
However, the striker would eventually move to La Liga outfit Valladolid, signing a four-year contract with the club which is owned by legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo in a reported €4m (£3.5m) deal.
Rangers would instead opt for a £6m combined deal for strike duo Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, who joined from Anderlecht and FC St. Gallen respectively [Scottish Sun].
It may turn out to be the right move for Rangers – Weissman is yet to score in seven appearances for Real Valladolid and hasn’t scored in 11 games for Israel.
Weissman might not have scored, but he helped break the heart of Rangers star Ryan Jack who was Man of the Match despite Scottish hearts being broken in Israel.
