Rangers didn’t see the best of Amad Diallo but the youngster has excelled on loan at English Championship side Sunderland.

The Gers thought they had landed a huge coup back in January 2022.

Diallo joined Rangers on loan for the second half of the season as Manchester United looked to get him more action.

United had major faith in Diallo; they struck a deal worth around £37million for him in the summer of 2021.

First-team football was what Diallo really needed though and Rangers secured an exciting loan deal.

It all started so well as Diallo scored on his debut away at Ross County, but he ended up just playing 500 minutes for Rangers.

The Ivorian headed back to United with few Rangers fans calling for an extension – but he has now enjoyed a superb season.

Amad Diallo wins Sunderland award

Diallo secured another loan move last summer, heading out to English Championship side Sunderland.

This move has been a masterstroke for all concerned with Diallo enjoying quite the campaign.

Diallo has racked up 12 goals in 38 games for Sunderland, adding four assists too.

That form has helped Sunderland sneak into the top six and they could now finish in the playoff places.

Diallo could help Sunderland win promotion but he has now won a personal accolade.

Sunderland announced on Wednesday night that Diallo has won the Supporters’ Young Player of the Year award.

The Black Cats remarked ‘what a season, what a player’ as Diallo secured some recognition for his displays this season.

Whether Sunderland go up or not, Diallo will leave the Stadium of Light as a fan favourite.

That’s a far cry from how Diallo was viewed when his Rangers loan ended last year, with the 20-year-old shining on Wearside.
