£17m star hailed as ‘revelation’ after rejecting 2022 Rangers move

Rangers missed out on a deal to sign Tijjani Reijnders and he is now becoming a star for both AC Milan and the Netherlands.

It’s fair to say that Rangers have missed out on some real talent in the last few years.

Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi, PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman and Nice striker Terem Moffi had been heavily linked with Rangers in recent times.

Oscar Gloukh, Djordje Petrovic, the list seems to go on and on with Rangers’ recruitment coming in for criticism over the years.

Sadly, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders may well join that list having rejected a move to Ibrox back in 2022…

Tijjani Reijnders making strides after rejecting Rangers move

Former Rangers defender Bert Konterman brought Reijnders into focus for supporters just last month.

Konterman told NOS that Rangers wanted to sign Reijnders in the summer of 2022, with the player’s father asking Konterman about the move.

Konterman suggested that Reijnders was better off staying at AZ Alkmaar, believing that even bigger clubs would arrive for him in the summer of 2023.

AC Milan pounced to sign Reijnders over the summer, forking out around £17million to bring Reijnders to the San Siro.

That fee would have been well beyond Rangers and Reijnders is now thriving, already becoming a regular in the Milan midfield.

Reijnders is now excelling for the Netherlands too, earning huge praise after starting in a 1-0 win over Greece on Monday night.

Voetbal Primeur hailed Reijnders as a ‘revelation’ in the Netherlands midfield, whilst Algemeen Dagblad added that he was ‘commanding’ and ‘excellent’ in Athens.

Rafael van der Vaart and Pierre van Hooijdonk have now compared Reijnders to Frankie de Jong, seemingly loving what they are seeing from the 25-year-old.

Reijnders just continues to go from strength to strength, and it increasingly feels like Rangers have missed out on absolute gem – and all because a former Ibrox ace advised against the move, making the situation all the more frustrating.
