£12m striker names the two things he’d change from time at ‘unbelievable’ Rangers

Tore Andre Flo might’ve moved to Rangers 25 years ago.

But the £12m price tag attached to the transfer still, to this day, hangs over the lanky Norwegian striker.

Rangers broke the bank, quite literally, to sign Tore Andre Flo from Chelsea for a fee which still stands as the Scottish transfer record.

And despite making an impression and finding the back of the net at Ibrox, Flo insists the pressure of the price tag had a monumental impact on his time in Glasgow.

The hitman has been on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast and paid tribute to Rangers, the club’s support and his time in Glasgow.

But Flo had some choice words for the media who heaped the pressure on due to the eye-watering price tag.

“It was heavy, I have to admit that,” Flo said.

”I didn’t think about it in that way when I went there.

”To be honest I didn’t feel the pressure that much from the supporters or the club or whatever, it was more like the media.

”It was the only thing they wanted to talk about. It was every time I spoke to the media.

”Well, when I didn’t speak to the media it was there as well.

”After every game if I scored two goals ‘ah but that’s not enough because you cost that much money’.

”So it never stopped in a way.”

Flo would change two things from time at Rangers

Tore Andre Flo scored 38 goals in 71 games for Rangers and yet continued to get hounded by the pressure of the £12m price tag attached to his name.

The striker wishes he could’ve played at Ibrox away from the pressure of the price tag, hailing the club as ‘unbelievable’ and insisting things might’ve been different.

Flo also has two main regrets from his time at Ibrox; the first is the price tag, the second is that the club never won the league.

“What a club,” beamed Flo. “It was great. What a city. It was lively and it was fun and the atmosphere at the games is unbelievable up there.

”So a great place to play football.

“I think I would’ve been considered a great success if I cost a fourth of what I actually did.

”That’s how much the price tag means to how they rate a player so that made it a lot more difficult.

”Just the price tag. That really has got nothing to do with what’s happening on the pitch.

”Obviously it did when it became the highest ever sort of fee and all that stuff.

”I wish I could have played there not having that over my shoulders. Then it would have been a bit different.

”Two things I would’ve changed. Obviously the price tag and I wish we won the league.“

Tore Andre Flo spent two years at Rangers before returning down south to play for Sunderland.

According to BBC Sport, Rangers recouped £6.75m from the sale of the striker which is over 50% of the transfer fee the club paid.
