Rangers fans will be hoping that there is a busy summer and that Nils Koppen will be shopping in more well-known and proven markets.
Ironically, the bargain basement signings are the ones that have established themselves better in the current Rangers squad, however, risk free transfers and proven talent are needed too.
There is no such thing as completely risk free at Rangers‘ end of the transfer market, but a new/familiar name has emerged that needs little introduction.
According to MLS Transfers on X, Rangers are one of several clubs eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Giovanni Reyna.
Named after a former player and manager and the son of a former player, it is an obvious link, however, the 22-year old USA international would come at a cost.

Rangers linked with Giovanni Reyna transfer
Tipped to leave Dortmund, the 32-times capped attacker was attracting interest from AC Milan in January with Sky Sports Germany reporting that the Bundesliga giants valued Reyna at over £11m.
Reyna, who has been to Ibrox before, has suffered a few injuries in recent seasons with minutes restricted to 594 in 2024/25, 592 in 2023/24, and he has only played over 1000 minutes once since 2021/22.
In a strange twist of coincidence, former Rangers sporting director signed Reyna for Nottingham Forest.
Unlike some of Rangers’ recent signings, Reyna hasn’t suffered major ankle or knee injuries, his are a collection of different muscle complaints, a red flag in itself.
With a year left on his Dortmund contract, a fee of over £11m might be out of the question.
Could 49ers funding help land Reyna for Rangers?
Reyna is talented, but clubs will be reticent to pay such a fee for a player who has played little more than 10 games in terms of minutes over the last two seasons.
He is young, but there are serious doubts about his body’s ability to cope with the rigours of professional football at the highest level.
MLS clubs are also reported to be on the trail of USA legend Claudio’s son and it is clear that a step back might be needed so that Reyna can get more consistent game time.
The 6ft tall creator has been selected more regular recently and even featured in the dramatic Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona.
The San Francisco 49ers won’t make a huge difference to transfers when the takeover goes through, but even if fees of £11m are being spent, spending it on someone who has barely played wouldn’t be a good use of funds.
