Vaclav Cerny made his first Rangers start this afternoon as fans flocked to social media to comment on his dazzling display.
Philippe Clement signed the Czech winger on loan until the end of the season from Wolfsburg this summer and labelled him an ‘exciting’ player to call upon.
Cerny made his debut for the Light Blues in midweek when Clement introduced him to the Champions League third round qualifier versus Dynamo Kyiv as a second-half substitute.
He may only have gotten 30 minutes of action but his impact was extremely important. His assist led to Cyriel Dessers’ dramatic equaliser in Poland, providing Rangers with a massive opportunity to progress to the play-off round.
Cerny’s delivery for the goal was inch-perfect and he was rewarded with his full debut and first start in the Scottish Premiership victory over Motherwell on Saturday at Hampden.
The 26-year-old was deployed on the right-wing and stood out as one of Rangers’ best performers on the day. Gers took the lead through Dessers before a Robin Propper own goal brought Motherwell level in Mount Florida.
But Cerny, just seven minutes later, provided the best piece of quality we’ve seen so far this season from a Rangers player as he cut inside and bent a sumptuous effort into the opposite corner.
Rangers fans have been reacting to his goal and overall display on X and it’s safe to say they are all massive supporters of the Czech Republic international already.

Rangers supporters serenade Cerny
For those who haven’t seen his strike, it’s well worth a watch. Cerny’s turn and shot was tremendously executed and ended up being the winner for Rangers on the day.
This fan hilariously said of Cerny’s outing: “Nah Cerny has done more for bald men than stone cold did in the 90s”.
Rangers fan and reporter Joshua Barrie wrote: “Well Vaclav Cerny looks pretty good doesn’t he.
“That’s the second time he’s taken the ball on the half turn in the half space. This time, rather than a pass, he whips a shot into the far corner after a pass from Tavernier. Excellent finish.”
Heart & Hand Podcast published this straight after his goal: “Vasa Cerny take a bow! Great turn and curls in a beauty for 2-1!”
This punter said: “If only we could get Sima over the line, him & Cerny on the wings would be as good as it gets”.
While this fan is delighted with Cerny’s impact for Rangers so far: “Was buzzing when we signed him. Vaclav Cerny is what Rangers have needed for years. A guy that’s just always looking to create.”
Vaclav Cerny’s impact vs Motherwell
Cerny was rightly named man of the match for the game as Rangers took three points and rose to the top of the Scottish Premiership table on four points.
Looking deeper into his statistics for the game, Cerny was handed a 7.6 match rating by FotMob and executed a 90% pass success rate.
Moreover, the winger made 38 touches overall with four of those being key passes into the final third.
Rangers have absolutely recruited a gem in Cerny and finally it seems, a quality right-winger which the club have been crying out for.
Clement has already praised Cerny after his Dynamo Kyiv display and we’re hoping it’s a constant theme of the manager’s post-match press conferences this season.
