James Tavernier urged Rangers fans to enjoy a “happy Sunday” on Instagram and it drew quite a bit of attention from players past and present.
The Ibrox skipper took to the social media platform after scoring goals number 119 and 120 to help fire Rangers to the Scottish Premiership summit after a 3-0 win over St Johnstone.
The James Tavernier Instagram message drew a big response from Rangers fans but also some ex-players and current Ibrox teammates.
It comes with Tavernier equalling the goal record of fellow defender and Ibrox legend John Greig, who had held the record of being the club’s highest scoring defender ever (120).

The likes of Steven Davis, Josh Windass, and Leon Balogun were amongst the first to respond to James Tavernier’s Instagram post, but they weren’t the only ones.

It’s clear the Rangers skipper is a popular player amongst those who he has captained and there were plenty ready to congratulate James Tavernier.
But something tells us all these guys also had a very “happy Sunday” indeed with Rangers back on top of the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers captain’s goal returns are “crazy”
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has also been speaking about the goalscoring contribution of James Tavernier to the Ibrox squad.
Responding to a question on Tav reaching 120 at the end of the victory over St Johnstone, the Rangers boss has branded the returns as “crazy”.
“It’s a crazy amount of goals,” said Clement. “It’s really crazy for a full-back.
“I don’t know if there was ever a defender scoring more goals in Scotland or even in Europe.
“He has a lot of qualities doing that but not only with penalties because he scored also important other goals like in the League Cup Final. And he’s doing a really good defensive job with us.
“In the first place he’s a defender for me, not an attacking player, so he’s not busy with statistics to play for himself, he’s playing for the team like they all are doing.”
James Tavernier has made 41 appearances for Rangers this season, scoring 19 goals, 12 of which have come from the penalty spot.
The marauding right-back has also laid on 10 assists with the defender’s contribution genuinely immense season-by-season.
