Scott Arfield’s return from suspension is massive for Gers in Vienna

For tonight’s huge clash in Vienna, Rangers are missing some big players. Daniel Candeias’ suspension leaves a big whole on the right flank, while Ryan Kent’s confirmed absence leaves a similar void on the left.

However, amid those absences, Scott Arfield returns to the fray. The midfielder’s straight red card against Hearts at the beginning of the month led to a two-match domestic suspension.

In the meantime, Rangers picked up just two points against Aberdeen and Dundee. Those poor results and performances, were a reflection on how important he is to the team.

He has accumulated an excellent five goals and four assists to date in the SPL, in this, his maiden season at Rangers. Add to that a crucial goal away at Villarreal in the Europa League, and his stats are impressive.

Tonight, he should bring back that all-important link between the midfielders and the front men, that was so lacking at the weekend.

He drives the team forward, and his last minute runs into the box provide an extra target for crosses.

All this, is especially relevant given the absence of Candeias and Kent. Tonight, the Gers need someone to lead by example.

Fresh after two weeks out of action, that man should be Scott Arfield.

Rangers fans will be hoping to see that famous salute celebration once more, in Vienna, this evening.
