Former Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has branded Todd Cantwell “phenomenal” after a volley v Motherwell produced a stunning save from Liam Kelly.
Cantwell, 25, had already found the back of the net in the Scottish Premiership clash at Fir Park as Rangers raced into a 2-0 lead over Motherwell.
With Kieran Dowell opening the scoring, Todd Cantwell doubled the lead within 15 minutes and Rangers were cruising for the majority of the game.
But as the match wound to a close at the end of the first half, Todd Cantwell sent Liam Kelly sprawling and the moment caught the eye of Scott Arfield at half-time.
Scott Arfield praises Todd Cantwell
Talking as part of Sky Sports’ live coverage of the match at Fir Park, Scott Arfield was on commentary duties alongside Kris Boyd and James McFadden.
Discussing the stunning volley, where the ex-Norwich City star let the ball fall out of the air at the edge of Motherwell box before hitting a sweet effort towards goal, which was palmed away by a sprawling Kelly.
Speaking at half-time, ex-Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield, who like Todd Cantwell was tasked with scoring goals from midfield in Light Blue, heaped praise on the Englishman.
“Phenomenal, it’s a wonderful hit,” said Arfield. “(The) Technique, it’s just phenomenal.”
Rangers star talks Motherwell win
Scott Arfield knows what it takes to hit the back of the net at Rangers and Todd Cantwell will be taking note of the midfielder’s praise.
The Englishman is finding his form once again this season after a stuttering start to the campaign with this goal only his first Premiership strike of the season.
Rangers fans will be hoping Todd can build on this on the weeks and months ahead and the midfielder spoke to Sky Sports about opening his account in the league this season.

“It’s not really a numbers thing,” said Cantwell. “It’s about the team.
“It’s about coming here and coming to a tough place, really tough conditions, and getting the three points.
“We’ve had quite a lot of games quite close together and for us at the moment it’s tick one off and let’s look forward to the next one.”
Rangers cut the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to two points with victory over Motherwell, with Ross County next up at Ibrox for Philippe Clement’s form side.
