Sam Lammers told to take Erling Haaland solace by Rangers manager

Misfiring Rangers forward Sam Lammers can take solace in the misses of Manchester City icon Erling Haaland.

That’s according to Rangers manger Philippe Clement, who was speaking after the disappointing 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

After a late James Tavernier penalty cancelled out Bojan Miovski’s opener, Rangers had a big chance to win the game through Sam Lammers.

After some excellent work from Rabbi Matondo, the summer Rangers signing headed the ball straight into the hands of Dons stopper Kelle Roos.

Rangers also hit the bar twice through Tom Lawrence and Leon Balogun in the match, whilst the Nigerian international defender missed a gilt-edged headed chance in the first-half.

Sam Lammers offered Erling Haaland solace

Speaking about the wastefulness of his side at the end of the game, Philippe Clement attributed it to a mixture of bad luck and poor execution.

In what appeared an attempt to nullify the frustrations with Sam Lammers too, the Ibrox gaffer claimed even £51m Erling Haaland misses big chances.

“It’s both (bad luck and poor execution),” said Clement. “Hitting the crossbar, it’s bad luck, it’s a question of centimetres.

“We had other chances where we could’ve done better but I see also the really top strikers like Haaland not scoring every opportunity he gets.

“We’re really demanding and we train a lot on those actions and the finishing but I know that it cannot be every time a goal.”

Sam Lammers is certainly a man in need of some confidence and whilst Erling Haaland might miss a few chances, the Rangers striker rarely scores them.

Signed in the summer on a reported £3.5m deal from Atalanta, save for a screamer against Dundee the club are yet to see enough from the forward.

Clement praises Rangers mentality

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has also been talking about his team’s work ethic in the draw with Aberdeen.

Rangers fans are incredibly frustrated as they once again saw their side let Celtic off the hook following a Parkhead draw with Motherwell.

But far from rail against his charges – given Ibrox fans are already doing that enough – the Gers boss claims the late show against Aberdeen is a sign of a never say die attitude.

“No surprises,” said Clement. “Like I say, a lot of respect towards them.

“It’s a difficult team to break and if you go behind it’s even more difficult.

“But the positive point from my side is that my team showed resilience today, they never gave up.

“Also not at the end of the game when you can have this feeling sometimes in teams that things don’t go your way, you hit two times the crossbar, a few good saves, your shot gets blocked, and people give up.

“I didn’t see any of that from my players, and I don’t want any of that from my players.

“We spoke about that enough the last couple of weeks; I want players who go full until the last second of the game and they showed against Hearts that they can comeback at the end of the game and they showed it again today.”

Rangers are now eight points off Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic with a game in hand.
