Philippe Clement would have been wanting his Rangers team to continue the recent momentum that has been built up and see off Ross County in comfortable fashion.

The manager has lost a few players from his squad due to injury and departures, but was still able to field a starting XI that looked close to his first choice.

With attention now turning to the closing hours of the transfer window, here are your Rangers player ratings for the game against Ross County.

Rangers player ratings vs Ross County

Rangers were able to make a lot of early changes thanks to the efforts in the first half, here’s how they scored :

Jack Butland – 6

Had virtually nothing to do thanks to the new-look centre-half pairing in front of him keeping the Staggies forward line at bay.

Dealt with a header from a corner that might have caused some panic, but held it on the line.

Jefte – 8

One of his best domestic displays.

Not only is he looking more aggressive defensively, but the Chelsea-linked left-back continues to be a menace to opposition teams in the final third too.

Sent a couple of stunning balls across the face of the goal and had his marker in knots a few times too.

James Tavernier – 8

Despite being 33-years old, Tavernier actually seems to have improved defensively recently and locked out Rangers’ right-hand side alongside Vaclav Cerny.

Looked like he enjoyed being back in his natural position too as he looked to get on the scoresheet and into the box on every occasion possible.

Took his penalty well, but there is no surprise there.

John Souttar – 7

First start in months but looked like he had never been away and this time with a new parter in Nsiala.

Complimented each other well and the ball seemed to be moved quicker from back to front, but in a good way.

Nearly scored a second goal but for an offside call that didn’t go his way.

Clinton Nsiala – 8

On this form, he shouldn’t be dropped. Not only is he adjusting to the physical nature of the senior game, but his passing is a real asset.

Turned County’s defence on several occasions by releasing Cerny on the right and both Ianis Hagi and Jefte on the left.

His only missed passes were ones where he was trying to break lines and there is no problem with that, earning the sponsors man of the match in the process.

Nicolas Raskin – 7

Raskin’s new base level never seems to dip below a 7/10 performance and, again, he was central to everything that Rangers did.

Collects every second ball and does the work of two protecting the Rangers defence.

Has become an unlikely weapon at set plays too with an assist for Souttar.

Mohamed Diomande – 7

Looks so much more confident in a Light Blues shirt now, directing players in front of him and putting himself about physically too.

Thrives having Raskin next to him in what is a well-balanced midfield pairing.

Ianis Hagi – 8

Looks as sharp as he has been at any point in his Rangers career, two first-half goals could have been more and also created a couple of chances too.

Adds a real quality and intelligence to the forward line.

Vaclav Cerny – 9

Ross County simply couldn’t handle the Czech Republic winger and with every display like this, Clement and Nils Koppen must be pestering the board to dig deep for a player who is a guaranteed hit.

Seemed to make something happen every time he got the ball and deserved a goal for his efforts.

Hamza Igamane – 5

Some neat interplay, but starting to look like he needs a rest.

It’s a testament to how good he has been that he can be below his usual standards but still show for the ball and try to get involved.

Too many loose passes in good positions though but he is allowed an off day or two.

Cyriel Dessers – 7

Looks like a new player. Is getting more involved and linking play better than before and should have grabbed himself a goal or two in the first-half but for resolute defending or his final effort not quite being at his recent standard.

Somehow managed to get through the 90 minutes without scoring despite getting into some good positions only to see his efforts blocked or saved.

Substitutes

Bailey Rice – 7

Clement chose to start strong with the hope of being able to bring players like Rice off the bench and the game, for once, went to plan.

Replace Diomande to give him more freedom and the 18-year old was keen to impress with his passing range and his eyes lit up when presented with a sight at goal, only for a solid block to deny him.

Robin Propper – 6

Came on for Souttar after an hour with the Scotland international only just back from injury.

Nedim Bajrami – 6

Didn’t really get on the ball to make anything happen.

Tom Lawrence – 6

Given some minutes after returning from injury but little impact.

Rafael Fernandes – 6

Given 15 minutes to experience Ibrox and to get his debut out of the way in a comfortable game. First touch of the ball, played a one-two with Vaclav Cerny and looked to overlap onto the wing.

Could be an interesting signing.
