Rangers fans single out MOTM v St Mirren as manager insists he still has ‘levels’ to go

Rangers fans just about go through a gruelling Scottish Premiership afternoon at Ibrox in the 2-1 win over St Mirren.

The Gers were under pressure to deliver on home soil after falling to defeat against Kilmarnock in Ayrshire last weekend and started well with Mohamed Diomande’s rebounded opener.

Vaclav Cerny then scored what proved to be the eventual winner following some good work from Cyriel Dessers, after Alex Gogic had equalised in the first half through a corner.

Come full-time, those Rangers frustrations from the stadium seeped onto social media but there was one player in particular for whom special praise was reserved.

Rangers fans hail ‘excellent’ Nicolas Raskin

Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin was named Man of the Match against St Mirren and the 23-year-old continues to impress after returning to the side from injury.

After a stellar showing in the 4-0 win over Steaua Bucharest, Raskin was once again partnered alongside Connor Barron in the middle of the pitch for Rangers.

Whilst there were grumbles aplenty, Raskin caught the eye come full-time and earned the applause of Ibrox supporters:

One fan said it is ‘not even a debate’ that Nicolas Raskin was Man of the Match for Rangers at Ibrox.

Another added that Raskin and midfield partner Connor Barron ‘have got the stay together’ whilst another supporter said Raskin is starting to show ‘what he can be’ for the Gers.

After a frustrating evening at Ibrox, one Rangers fan used Nicolas Raskin to pretty much sum up everyone’s feelings on the game.

Philippe Clement ‘not surprised’ by Nicolas Raskin form

Rangers boss Philippe Clement was asked about Nicolas Raskin’s form after the victory over St Mirren at Ibrox.

The Belgian manager knows Nico from his time in the Pro League and claims that the midfielder showing his ability is ‘no surprise’ given his longstanding potential.

After a year or so of injury problems, Clement has claimed he’s happy that Raskin is finally finding his form and hailed a ‘fighter’ who still has levels to go up at Ibrox.

“I know Nico already a long, long time, when he was a young boy coming to the youth ranks of Standard,” Clement told a post-match press conference.

“I know him from before, when he was playing in the youth of Sandara. So it’s not a surprise for me, it’s about getting him to this level and to raise the level still. He’s been really unlucky in that way.

“When I came in, in the beginning, he played, I don’t know, one, two games, three games, and then he got a really, really bad injury and it was a long time out.

“He got an injury this season also that was a while out, and then you need some time to get back in rhythm and to grow to your best level.

“But I know he’s a fighter with good feet and with the right mentality that suits this club.

“So, yeah, I’m happy to see now the Nico that I expected already nine months ago. But, yeah, that’s part of football with injuries, that you lose some time.”
