Rangers face Lyon in the Europa League against a team with the same number of points and goal difference, hoping to keep their place in the top eight on the table.

A place in the top sixteen after matchday eight is the ultimate aim and two wins from two would give Philippe Clement the perfect start with a squad that is starting to gel.

The manager knows how tough a task this will be and has named a consistent looking Rangers team to get the job done at a packed Ibrox.

Rangers fans react to team to face Lyon

The injury list is still playing a part, especially with Danilo and Oscar Cortes unavailable, however, the performance against Malmo should give them confidence of getting a result against the Ligue 1 outfit.

Reacting on X, the Light Blues faithful are all saying the same thing about Clement’s selection as the big Belgian goes with the team that many expected:

Rangers up against it as big spenders come to town

To put into perspective the size of the task facing Rangers tonight, if Lyon had Danilo or Cortes missing, they would barely make the top 10 in terms of transfer fee paid.

A point that Philippe Clement is only too aware of when asked if two wins out of two would be huge for Rangers:

“Yeah, it would but also, winning against Lyon would be a huge thing. Even a draw would be a very good result if you see the budget difference.

“So, we go full for that and the three points, not to play only for one point. We need everyone on top and a few players to go above their level, to have an amazing evening with the fans like a 12th player on the pitch.

“If you speak about financial problems and you take a look at what they’ve spent… then I would like to be in financial problems to be honest!

“I don’t think that is the case. They have spent a lot on experience and young talent.

“They bought two players in Genk for £34million. To speak about those prices is a different world but that’s the challenge and a nice thing also. You want this competition to compete with the best.

“My players learned you can grow out of the Betis and Benfica games. My team needs experiences like that to become better.”

Regardless of who Clement picks, once they cross the line, it is all down to them.

If they show the same level of bravery on the ball, energy and aggression, then they will be just fine, if they don’t, well, you only have to look across the city to see what can happen when you turn up thinking that you are better than you actually are.
