Philippe Clement stokes Rangers fans as dream of legendary quadruple builds

Philippe Clement has said Rangers fans have the right to dream as the club target a remarkable quadruple this season.

The Belgian manager has already helped to end the club’s 13-year wait for the League Cup trophy – something six of his predecessors failed to do – with another three in the Ibrox club’s sights.

Rangers can go to the top of the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday if they defeat Ross County by more than three clear goals.

The Gers have also just progressed in the Scottish Cup, defeating Ayr United 2-0 over the weekend to reach the competition’s Quarter Finals.

In a miraculous turn of events, Rangers also finished top of their Europa League Group and, draw dependent, will hope to get through their round of 16 tie having been seeded for the match.

Philippe Clement urges Rangers fans to dream big

Whilst it’s a scenario that doesn’t bear thinking about for most of Scottish football, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been clear he wants to win everything this season.

A domestic treble is obviously an infinitely more achievable scenario but don’t rule this Rangers team, beaten finalists two years ago, reaching the latter stages of the Europa League either.

But whilst Philippe Clement is keen to ensure the focus inside of Rangers is all about the next 90 minutes, outside of the club he’s got no issue with fans starting to believe.

“Yes they have the right to dream because they’re fans,” said Clement. “So they can dream and it’s important to dream also in life.

“I want one thing; that my players are focused on the next game. Just that, and full focus on that. You can dream in the beginning of the season but as a player, as a manager, as member of staff, you need to be in the story at that moment.

“But that’s the nice thing to be fan that you do those things so I hope that they dream about a lot. Because I love also the passion they have now, how they are behind the team, how they are helping the team also through difficult moments.

“So if they dream about those things they are going to help the team even more next couple of months, so I hope they dream a lot.”

Gers target legendary Ibrox quadruple

Football fans in general are never slow to get carried away during periods of success or upswings in form and, conversely, it’s the same when things are going bad.

But whilst managers such as Philippe Clement are focused on linear development, we’ve seen how big a difference fan sentiment can make either way.

If Rangers continue to build in this fashion then the sounds around Ibrox have the power to help carry the club over the line and you’ll forgive fans for dreaming of not only a domestic treble, but of Europa League success too.

There’s a long way to go, and heck we feel a little dirty even discussing it prematurely ourselves, but Philippe Clement clearly believes that belief from the stands is directly linked to success on the field.

With that in mind – are we all dreaming of a legendary quadruple for Rangers this season then?
