Philippe Clement was delighted with his team’s character to secure progression to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup after beating Dumbarton away from home.

Rangers were comfortable 4-1 winners in West Dunbartonshire and overcame torrential conditions in the process.

John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and Scott Wright fired in the goals as Gers easily saw off their League Two opposition.

Clement spoke to BBC Sportsound after the clash and was complimentary of his team’s performance to get over the line – especially with how dug up the pitch was – and getting the chance to bank more minutes for his players just returning from injury.

The Belgian also teased more transfers with just twelve days of January to go as he was asked specifically how many more players he would like to recruit.

Philippe Clement said after the Dumbarton triumph: “It’s really important and also that we were never in trouble. These are always tricky games on a pitch here like it was today with this weather.

“So to play really fast combination football was difficult but we did the job in a good way and it’s now about a good recovery towards Wednesday.”

Asked what he is particularly pleased about from the victory, he said: “I don’t care who is scoring, it can be four times the same (player). The most important thing is that we created chances and the goals follow.

“The most satisfying thing is that I could rotate a bit to give three guys who just came out from injury, Borna (Barisic), Tom (Lawrence) and Ryan (Jack) more minutes to get rhythm.

“Rabbi has come in the last few weeks to get more rhythm with the others, Scott Wright also coming back from an injury with a good taken goal and some minutes.

“Fabio (Silva) could also get some minutes along with the rest so a lot of positive things, a few good goals and the most important thing was a really professional team.

“They were switched on all game and that is not easy in this kind of game. So they showed their personality which is what I demand to see.”

Clement was then quizzed on what is left of the January transfer window and how many players he would like to recruit to his squad – Fabio Silva remains the only addition thus far.

He answered: “I said it in my press conference already, I never talk about those things. The most important thing is that we are in line with the club’s board and what we want and everybody has the same ideas about that. Everybody is working hard to reach our goals.

After being asked if he expects some more incoming movement in the window, Clement simply finished the interview with: “Yes.”
