Philippe Clement claims “I will not look at the league table” even if Rangers go top with victory over Ross County.

The Gers are set to play their Scottish Premiership game in hand against the Staggies this week and can send a message to Old Firm rivals Celtic by topping the table.

Rangers need to win by three clear goals to better Celtic’s current goal difference in what would be a remarkable achievement given the seven-point gap when Clement took charge.

But with Rangers’ eyes firmly on the end of season prize, Belgian manager Philippe Clement is not letting anyone getting carried away no matter the Ross County result.

Philippe Clement on Ross County

In a firm eight word response to being asked if he’d look on the situation with glee should Rangers go top, Clement initially claimed that “I will not look at the league table” regardless of the result.

Expanding on the situation further, the Rangers boss added: “I will be happy if we won the game, that’s the only thing.”

The Rangers gaffer was also earlier asked about the excitement which is building in the stands as a result of the situation and whether or not it would filter down to the players.

“No because if fans are excited it’s only a good thing,” said Clement. “It gives energy.

“But we’re only busy with our own game and Ross County, that’s the only thing.

“So it’s good for the players also for sure a few months ago it was another kind of noise when they came on the pitch and they didn’t like that one.

“So this one they like and already from the last games, so that’s a positive thing.”

Rangers could top Scottish Premiership

The fact that Rangers could top the Scottish Premiership against Ross County this week would represent a significant if not purely symbolic achievement by Philippe Clement.

The Belgian manager has transformed Rangers’ fortunes since taking charge and closing the gap with Celtic has ignited a first title race in 13 years.

With both sides neck and neck no matter what happens tomorrow evening, there is still a long way to go and it’s clear Rangers won’t be losing focus with the Ibrox club’s eyes on the prize.

But should we win by three clear goals v Ross County, try and stop Rangers fans celebrating as the bragging rights swing back towards Ibrox.
