Motherwell striker Theo Bair gave Rangers defender Connor Goldson the “runaround” at Ibrox.

That’s according to former Ibrox winger Neil McCann, who has heaped praise on the frontman after inspiring the Steelmen’s 2-1 victory at Ibrox.

Rangers are licking their wounds after succumbing to a shock defeat against Motherwell which could see them relinquish top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

But central to the victory was powerful 24-year-old striker Theo Bair, who James McFadden also claimed had the Rangers defence “nervous”.

Theo Bair gave Connor Goldson “runaround”

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, Neil McCann was discussing the impact of Theo Bair in Rangers’ shock defeat to Motherwell.

Connor Goldson has come in for huge criticism after coming up short at both ends of the park in the match.

Now, McCann suggested that the performance of Motherwell hitman Theo Bair was central to it with the Rangers vice-captain given the “runaround”.

“All day long I think Theo Bair gave Connor Goldson in particular a real runaround,” said Neil McCann.

“Powerful, quick, if you’re going to go to Ibrox and get a historic win you need pace up top, you need a target man, you need a willing runner.”

It’s a damning indictment of Connor Goldson, who only recently celebrated playing his 300th game for Rangers.

Motherwell striker made Rangers “nervous”

Neil McCann wasn’t the only one who heaped the praise on Theo Bair either, with James McFadden also talking up the hitman on the Sportscene panel.

The ex-Motherwell striker even claims that at one stage a nervous Connor Goldson was “delighted” James Tavernier gave him respite from the forward.

McFadden – who did praise the performance of the Rangers defence over the course this season – also claimed the striker ran the Ibrox defence “ragged” and made them look “nervous”.

“I’ve listened to Philippe Clement speak about how good Rangers have been defensively,” said James McFadden.

“And they have been. They’ve looked so comfortable up until this afternoon.

“Theo Bair was outstanding. So physical, running the channel, causing problems.

“Connor Goldson was delighted at one moment that James Tavernier cut in because he didn’t have to deal with him.”

“Theo Bair is running channels, he’s holding it up. Running the best defence in the league ragged and making them look nervous.”

Theo Bair joined Motherwell from St Johnstone on a free-contract in the summer, with the goal v Rangers his 11th in the Scottish Premiership this season.
