Leon Balogun injury scare as Rangers defender forced off vs Ross County

Leon Balogun had to be substituted out of Rangers’ clash with Ross County after a nasty fall at a corner-kick.

The veteran defender was handed a start by Philippe Clement after missing the last two games against Dynamo Kyiv and St Johnstone.

Rangers were awarded a corner on the 38th minute with the score 1-0 at the time. Balogun then challenged for the ball in the air but landed poorly and appeared to have injured the back of his head or neck.

The Rangers medical staff attended to Balogun on the field and remained by his side for a few minutes. Balogun then rose to his feet gingerly and walked off the pitch.

But it was decided that he should not continue playing a part in the clash and a concussion substitute was hence made with Mohamed Diomande coming on.

Diomande then made an instant impact as he played a part in the second goal for Rangers netted by winger Rabbi Matondo.

Rangers injury woes rumble on

Philippe Clement will be praying Balogun isn’t out for too long given fellow centre-back Robin Propper is currently nursing his way back from injury.

Clement did intimate that Propper would be back for Celtic next weekend but it’s not ideal potentially losing the experienced Balogun for the derby.

The 35-year-old is likely to have a suspected concussion so it should mean he isn’t going to be sidelined for too long.

Balogun now joins Propper, Oscar Cortes, Nicolas Raskin, Scott Wright and Ridvan Yilmaz in the Rangers treatment room as Clement deals with yet another setback.
