Injury news coming from the other side of the city has provided a real boost for Rangers this morning.
It appears that key Celtic player, Kieran Tierney, may miss Saturday’s Old Firm at Ibrox.
A hip injury has sidelined the left-back for the last four matches, and he looks unlikely to recover in time to feature.
His manager, Brendan Rodgers, confirmed as much in quotes published by the Daily Record.
“He (Tierney) is clearly a question mark. In the next 48 hours we will see.”
“If not, it’s unfortunate, but we have other guys to come into the squad and that’s always an opportunity”, he added.
Make no mistake, this is a great boost for Rangers and Daniel Candeias, the Gers player most likely to be operating on the right wing.
Tierney has won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons and is a consistently strong performer for Celtic.
His likely absence means there is uncertainty surrounding the Hoops’ team selection. Emilio Izaguirre started in Tierney’s stead against Aberdeen yesterday, but was promptly hooked at half-time after a poor showing.
Jonny Hayes, a winger, rather than a natural full-back, came on for the second half. If he were to start on Saturday, it would be a weakness the Gers could look to exploit.
Tom Rogic will also be missing for the visitors, as international commitments with Australia have rendered him unavailable.
