John Lundstram has explained his joyous Rangers celebrations were about giving something back to Hibs’ Easter Road crowd.
The Scouse midfielder, 30, has been on immense form for Rangers ever since the appointment of Philippe Clement and opened the scoring in Leith.
Reacting quickest to James Tavernier’s saved penalty kick, John Lundstram netted only his second goal of a 43 game season in Edinburgh.
The strike sparked wild scenes with Lundstram earning the acclaim of supporters for pointing to the badge and displaying the kind of passion many believe has been missing from Ibrox for too long.
John Lundstram explains Hibs goal celebration
John Lundstram was speaking to RangersTV after scoring against Hibs on Scottish Cup duties and was asked about the celebrations.
Also landing a dig on Hibs’ “little hostile crowd”, the Rangers midfielder didn’t miss come full time.
“It was good,” said Lundstram. “It was hostile tonight here so it was nice to score and give them one back.
“This is what you want to play in front of, a little hostile crowd. But no I enjoyed it, it’s just nice to get on the scoresheet and another one in the Cup.
“I wish I’d have had one in the league but it is what it is.”
Rangers midfielder helps club to Scottish Cup semis
With John Lundstram opening the scoring in the match, Fabio Silva completed it with a 2-0 victory taking the club to the Scottish Cup semi-final.
Asked about the match itself – a frenetic affair which saw Hibs have two men sent off – the midfielder also acknowledged the Hibees contribution to the game.
“It was tough, it was a tough game,” said Lundstram. “I didn’t think we played our best game we’ve played but the pitch ain’t great.

“The most important thing is that we’re through, it wasn’t going to be pretty coming here.
“They had a right go to be fair to them but job done and into the next round.”
With John Lundstram’s contract up at the end of the season, the Rangers midfielder is certainly doing everything he can to earn a new deal.
All parties seem to be aligned on the player renewing at Ibrox and we suspect it’s just a matter of time.
