Ian Durrant has delivered his verdict on John Souttar returning to the starting eleven for Rangers against Dundee United.

Rangers play host to Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon, and Danny Rohl’s side have the chance of going to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

A number of players will return from international duty in the next 24 hours, and thus far, there have been no injuries sustained over the past few days.

Ian Durrant does not expect John Souttar to start for Rangers

Discussing the potential starting eleven with Barry Ferguson, Durrant is unsure if Souttar comes back into the starting eleven.

Despite playing for Scotland in the recent international break, Durrant does not expect him to start on Saturday afternoon.

In his view, Danny Rohl would not want to change something that has been working for him this season.

Souttar, who has made 36 appearances in all competitions this term, recently lost his place in the starting eleven to Nasser Djiga.

The Wolves loanee has formed a good understanding with Emmanuel Fernandez in defence and that pairing is expected to last at least until the end of the season.

Durrant told Five Stars VIP: “I don’t think the back four might change.

“I don’t know if Souttar will automatically come back in.

“I think he’ll go with Tav, Djiga, Fernandez and Rommens.

“I think now the one thing you don’t want at this time is to just disrupt.”

If YOU were to change one thing about his management style for next season, what would it be? 🤔

What does the future hold for Souttar at Ibrox?

Souttar joined Rangers under the impression that he would be a first-team regular and that has been the position he has held in recent seasons.

In fact, ahead of this season, he was arguably the best centre-back in the team and was virtually undroppable.

However, teams are picked on merit and this season, he has been the third-best centre-back after Fernandez and Djiga.

Rangers will surely consider signing Djiga permanently, and that could have ramifications on Souttar’s future.

While the Scotland international penned a new contract last month that keeps him at the club until 2027, with the Light Blues holding the option for an additional year, he may ask to leave for regular game time.

Given that he is in his late 20s, Gers could look to demand a decent transfer fee, so an exit could benefit all parties.
