High-profile Celtic fan Andy Robertson is “likely” to miss Rangers’ Champions League clash with Liverpool due to injury.

That’s according to BBC Sport, who claim the Anfield left-back is still recovering from the problem that forced the national captain to miss the latest round of UEFA Nations League fixtures.

The report comes after comments from Jurgen Klopp regarding the player’s situation, with the Reds manager claiming the player would be unavailable until after the international break back in September.

Andy Robertson hasn’t been seen since the Anfield club’s 4-1 Champions League drubbing at the hands of Napoli.

“He felt it the next day [after Napoli game],” said Klopp.

“He’s out until after the international break.”

Celtic fan Andy Robertson to miss Rangers’ trip to Liverpool

Whilst no longer quite at the peak of his powers, Andy Robertson is a key player for Liverpool and will be bitterly disappointed to miss out on this clash with Rangers.

From an Ibrox perspective, Liverpool are weakened without the 28-year-old in their squad with Greek international Konstantinos Tsimikas deputising as things stand.

Robertson has made no bones about his allegiances to Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic and there’s no doubt the Scotland skipper would’ve relished the opportunity to play in this game.

But even without Andy Robertson, Rangers fans are well aware of the challenge that lies before them at Anfield as they look to take on last season’s beaten Champions League finalists.

Liverpool have had a stuttering start to the Premier League season and currently find themselves in 9th place having drawn four of their opening seven matches in the English top flight.

It means the Gers face Liverpool at an interesting juncture and whilst not many will be banking on a Rangers upset, stranger things have happened.

Whilst Liverpool have their own injury issues, Rangers face having up to nine first-teamers ruled out of the side ahead of the clash at Anfield.
