Former Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty has backed the Ibrox side to go full strength and control the tempo at Celtic Park.

The ex-Gers academy head also claims that a positive result can help build momentum heading into the return Europa League semi-final leg against RB Leipzig.

Murty was speaking to BBC Radio Scotland show Off the Ball and claims he expects Giovanni van Bronckhorst to go all out to get the win at Parkhead.

“I think he will try to mirror exactly what he did in the last game,” said Graeme Murty.

“When they got beat they were a bit passive, and they allowed Celtic to sort their formation out and their patterns out. They dictated the tempo, and I think Rangers have to try and dictate the tempo.

“Even though it’ll be hard because of their exertions, I think he needs to go full strength. Personally, I think that is what he will do.

“As much as you do it to manage the legs, positivity can really lift you up.

“If they are go and do really well, it takes you into a packed house at Ibrox and they will fancy their chances of turning it round from 1-0 down.”

Graeme Murty and Barry Ferguson on same Rangers wavelength

The comments of Graeme Murty also come after ex-Rangers captain Barry Ferguson warned the Ibrox club not to field a weakened team against Celtic.

Rangers are currently in the midst of some serious injury woes and have to balance a Europa League semi-final either side of this Celtic clash.

The former Ibrox skipper took to a Daily Record column to appeal to former teammate van Bronckhorst to make sure he goes full strength in this pivotal Old Firm clash.

Rangers can reduce the deficit in the Scottish Premiership to three points with three games to play if they can overcome the Parkhead side in their own midden.

The former Gers captain also tipped one player who has been in and out of the side to shine at Celtic Park.
