Mikey Moore appeared to be at risk of getting seriously injured as Rangers played out a 1-1 draw against Motherwell at Fir Park.

Danny Rohl decided to start Moore, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and the teenager was involved in a highly-discussed incident in the aftermath of the game.

Rangers will be disappointed as they dropped two points and failed to make up ground on Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table.

Mark Clattenburg reacts to Lukas Fadinger red card vs Rangers

Motherwell ended the game with ten men as Lukas Fadinger received a red card for his challenge on Moore.

Initially, Steven McLean only branded a yellow card, but after being asked by VAR to take another look at the incident, he decided to send off the 25-year-old midfielder.

Despite that, the Gers conceded a late goal and failed to pick up the three points.

Reacting to the incident, Mark Clattenburg, a former Premier League and FIFA referee, believes that there was a degree of force in the challenge that endangered the safety of Moore.

In his view, the red card was the right decision.

Clattenburg told Rangers News exclusively: “Lukas Fadinger of Motherwell’s challenge on Rangers’ Mikey Moore was poor.

“He had very little intent on winning the ball and hits his opponent’s back of the leg with his studs.

“The criteria for a red card has to have a degree of force, malice and speed and this challenge has all of the elements.

“This could easily endanger the safety of his opponent, and the VAR was correct to make an intervention on the referee’s original decision of a yellow card.”

Danny Rohl has to tweak things around as Rangers drop points

While a point away at Fir Park is not necessarily a bad thing, the context of this game does make it feel like two points dropped.

It was not a match that Rangers were coasting to victory, but leading by a goal and a man advantage should have been enough for them to see it out.

Instead of putting the pressure on the hosts and capitalising on having an extra player, Rohl instructed his players to sit back.

They eventually crumbled and conceded a goal, and there was very little time to go out and score a winner.

Rangers are not going to win the title if they continue playing like this.
