Cyriel Dessers has made more of an immediate impact for Rangers recently and, despite playing it down, will know full well what the significance of winning against Aberdeen tonight is.
A win is the most important objective but, as we saw against Livingston at Ibrox at the weekend, even when games are won, there will be no drop intensity as Gers boss Philippe Clement sets the standards.
The squad has been rotated, slightly, with Clement explaining why he has made the changes that he sees necessary to get the job done as Rangers look to beat Aberdeen for the first time in the league this season – something Cyriel Dessers is keen to get right.

Speaking ahead of the game to Rangers TV, the on-form striker was quick to point out that they are fully prepared for a tough night:
“Aberdeen have been a tough opponent for us throughout the three games that we’ve played against them so, I don’t expect anything less today.
“They are a good team, they have quality but we are as well, we have quality.
“We have to show that we want it more, to play better, to play harder to get the win.”
Dessers is right, it takes more than just good football to win games like this.
Neil Warnock has picked a team that will flood the midfield and be aggressive out of possession, Rangers have to match that.
Philippe Clement, on the other hand, has picked a team to play football with the surprise inclusion of Tom Lawrence in midfield, not that he is shy of putting in the hard yards too.
As always, as the Gers number nine is fully aware of, this won’t be an easy night but, if they do what the gaffer has instructed them too, they will get what they deserve.
