Barry Ferguson has suggested he seen Ross McCausland’s Rangers red card against Aberdeen coming.

Rangers were reduced to ten men for the second time in as many matches when the young Northern Irishman was booked twice within ten minutes at Pittodrie.

Ross McCausland had been asked to play in a right wing-back role against Aberdeen but had a torrid time on a difficult afternoon in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers fell 2-0 behind to Aberdeen but roared back in the second period with a defiant Ianis Hagi netting a stunning last-minute equaliser.

Barry Ferguson reacts to Ross McCausland red card v Aberdeen

Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Barry Ferguson admits he should’ve subbed McCausland off before he was shown a second yellow.

The interim Rangers manager has also claimed that he’s spoken with the 21-year-old and explained that you cannot be going in with reckless challenges whilst on a yellow card.

”Good comeback obviously down to ten men,” Ferguson said after the eventual 2-2 draw at Pittodrie.

”I’ve spoke to Ross at half-time and after the game. You can’t be making mistakes like that when you’re on a booking.

”Maybe at that stage when he got booked, because he’d had a couple of tackles, maybe I should make the decision earlier to maybe substitute him.

”But look it happen. He got correctly second yellow, red card and then it’s backs to the wall stuff again.“

Barry Ferguson admits ‘three or four’ Athletic Club injury doubts

Barry Ferguson has told his side that they need to be confident they can go to Bilbao and get a Europa League result over Athletic Club.

The interim Rangers manager claims that there is ‘no point’ making the quarter final trip if his players do not believe they can make the semis.

Ferguson has also revealed that there are ‘three or four’ players who are major doubts ahead of the Europa League clash.

“We’ve got to be (confident),” Ferguson said. “There’s no point getting on the plane on Wednesday if we don’t think we can achieve it.

”We all know it’s going to be tough. They’re at home. They’ll be the favourites.

”Hopefully I get a bit of good news Monday, Tuesday that three or four players will be fit and available to travel.

”If that’s the case then I think we’ll have a right good chance.”
