The Rangers vs Willie Collum debacle has been ongoing for some time now, but today could be the day the club find out their fate.

The Ibrox club were hit with an incredible five SFA charges after they released a statement on Collum. This came after a red-card appeal for Daniel Candeias was booted out by the head beaks of Scottish football.

Now, the Daily Record are reporting that Rangers officials were at Hampden yesterday pleading their case. A verdict wasn’t reached last night, however, and has now rumbled on into today. It’s unclear as of yet whether a decision will be released today, but it seems highly likely.

Rangers believe there is an “underlying issue” with the refereeing of Collum, and who can blame them? The club have been on the wrong end of plenty of poor Collum decisions in the past.

It’s not a conspiracy, that’s where the sensible ones have to draw the line. What it is, however, is just a terrible referee who consistently struggles to keep up with the flow of football matches and consistently makes wrong decisions in big games.

Poor standard of referees

Collum isn’t the only one either. There are a host of refs in Scotland who just can’t control matches efficiently. As usual, however, they’re always strongly protected by the SFA, who like to stick fingers in their ears and refuse to listen.

With the five charges including “indicating bias” and “bringing the game into disrepute”, Rangers are likely to receive a heavy punishment here. Clubs simply aren’t allowed to call referees out for poor officiating, and instead are forced to just deal with it.

The entire case came about because of a complaint from Rangers regarding a Candeias red card against St Mirren. Despite the Portuguese winger doing nothing but blow kisses to the opposition defender, he was shown a red.

That also came after he was manhandled by Anton Ferdinand, who incredibly escaped the incident without any sort of punishment.

So today we await the decision on what happens to the club. A slap in the wrist or a heavy fine? Knowing the SFA, it’s highly likely to be the latter.
