Ally McCoist praised his old side Rangers for earning a ‘deserved’ point away to Olympiacos in the Europa League.
The Light Blues knew heading into the encounter at the Georgios Karaiskakis Football Stadium that the Greeks and current Europa Conference League winners would pose a tough challenge.
However, the home side weren’t really at the races across the encounter and on another night, Rangers could have secured all three points given the chances they spurned.
Cyriel Dessers missed two glorious opportunities in the first-half but the tie remained at 0-0 as the whistle for the interval sounded.
Olympiacos would then take the lead against the run of play through Moroccan striker Ayoub El Kaabi. However, Rangers responded well to the setback.
Dessers made amends for his earlier misses with a very well-taken strike after being played through on goal by Vaclav Cerny.
No side could find a winner but McCoist, speaking on TNT Sports as the full-time whistle, was a very happy man.

McCoist applauds ‘first class’ Rangers
Also picking out three standout performers in the Rangers side, McCoist said: “It’s been a great performance from Rangers. They could have buckled after losing the goal to El Kaabi but they didn’t.
“I think it has been a first class performance against a side who can play better and we’ve seen them play better, we mentioned that beforehand.
“But take nothing away from the Rangers performance. I thought the two lads in the middle of the park, Raskin and Barron, I thought they were absolutely outstanding, I thought they were terrific.
“And Dessers, you know, he gets his fair share of criticism but he takes his goal exceptionally well. It’s a well-earned point and a deserved point.”
Steven Thompson on ‘massive point’ gained
With McCoist on TNT Sports co-commentary duty, another former Rangers striker Steven Thompson was delivering analysis for BBC Sportsound on the radio.
And he too was impressed with how Rangers went about their business in Greece.
He said: “It is a brilliant result. They showed a great reaction. To come away from a really tough opponent, away from home, in a hostile place with a point, it is massive point.
“It was a better performance from Rangers and that will please the manager the most.”
