Rangers midfielder John Lundstram netted the first goal of his Ibrox career in the 5-0 rout over Dunfermline to kickstart his new life in Glasgow.

Lundstram, 27, was a free agent signing from Sheffield United in the summer but has come in for some early criticism in his Ibrox career.

The midfielder was suspect in the opening leg with Malmo in the Champions League disappointment as he failed to close down his man and was again criticised against Dundee United for failing to track eventual matchwinner Jamie Robson.

But the former Everton youth bounced back from a difficult start at Rangers to get his Ibrox career up and running with an emphatic opener against the Pars.

Lundstram pounced on a cut back from the impressive Calvin Bassey to fire the ball into the net in only the third minute of the Premier Sports Cup clash.

It kickstarted an impressive first half hour at Ibrox were Rangers raced into a four goal lead to banish some of the ill-feeling of the last week.

Lundstram’s strike was followed up by goals from Scott Wright, Ianis Hagi and a deadly double from the on-form Kemar Roofe.

Rangers fans were impressed with the midfielder and they took to social media to praise his performance:

The midfielder needs time to settle into life at Rangers and John Lundstram deserves credit for finding his feet and getting his first goal for the club.

Speaking of Rangers-linked midfielders, one player who’s been extensively linked this transfer window has suffered an international disappointment which highlights his need to move.
