Controversial pundit Michael Stewart has branded Rangers fans’ pyro display against Dundee as over the top after the match was subject to heavy delays.
An accident coming into Dundee forced Rangers to delay the kick off at Dens Park by 45 minutes and the game was subject to yet another delay as Rangers fans lit a series of flares moments after kick off.
Smoke engulfed the Dundee stadium before both sides were forced back into the dressing room due to the fire alarm going off at Dens Park.
Rangers boss Philippe Clement was critical of the pyro display at full time and Michael Stewart admits that whilst the Dundee display looked great, the timing was pretty awful.
“One thing is for certain that the last thing the players were needing or wanting is such a delay,” Michael Stewart told Sportscene.
“Getting the game started to then play a couple of minutes and have to go back into the changing room, it really was not needed.
“From the pyrotechnics perspective, I’ve no idea what was going on with the police and what was needing to be done.
“But it’s certainly something that’s a wee bit OTT at the moment when you see a full stand like that. Looks great, but clearly not safe.”
Michael Stewart wants less pyro but more from Sam Lammers
Michael Stewart was also talking about a wonder goal from under-fire Rangers forward Sam Lammers as the striker grabbed some of the attention despite the Dundee pyro display.
Shifting the ball on to his left foot at the edge of the Dundee box, Sam Lammers lashed in a stunner from long range which Michael Stewart reckons must kickstart the Dutchman’s Rangers career.
”If it doesn’t then you’ve got to ask questions, what will?” Stewart asked.
“Watching the game again it just had the hallmarks of a Sam Lammers performance for Rangers where he wasn’t doing a great deal.
“I think it was about 75 minutes when he scored and up until that point Neil (McCann) and I were surprised he’s still on the park.

“That’s a massive goal for him and hopefully that can do his confidence the world of good.
“He needs to kick on, he needs to have more of an end product if he’s going to maintain that position in the team.”
Whilst the pyro display grabbed much of the headlines and drew comment from the likes of Michael Stewart, Rangers ran out comfortable winners against Dundee.
Running out as 5-0 victors, goals from Ryan Jack, Danilo, Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier continued the strong momentum of Philippe Clement’s start as manager.
