Dundee manager Tony Docherty has blasted the “bizarre” moment which saw Kevin Clancy play a helping hand in Rangers 4th goal at Dens Park.
The Gers are celebrating a comprehensive five goal Scottish Premiership victory over Dundee in a match which saw a series of frustrating delays before kick off.
Not only was the weather potentially set to abandon the game, but Rangers were held up reaching Dens Park due to an accident on the road.
Visiting Gers fans then caused further delay after a series of pyrotechnic flares where lit in the stands when the match eventually kicked off 45 minutes later than initially planned.
Speaking after the game, Dundee manager Docherty has been discussing the build up to the 4th goal, where Dundee were left incensed after Kevin Clancy appeared to block Paul McGowan.
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers then raced free and finished with aplomb and Tony Docherty claims it’s the most “bizarre” goal he’s ever seen.
”I don’t understand why there can’t be a rule for that,” Tony Docherty told Sky Sports. “If that’s a Rangers player he’s impeded our player.
“The referee has actually fouled out player and because of the player’s reaction they run through and score.
“It’s one of the most bizarre goals I’ve ever seen and then the explanation I got for it is even more bizarre.
“It’s not the reason we got beat tonight but it certainly did exacerbate things and I just don’t understand, why there’s not a lot against that.
When pressed on what the refereeing team had told him about the incident Docherty said: “The fourth official told me that unless he touches the ball they can’t then go to VAR and bring it back again.
“When I’ve asked (the refereeing team) said yes he did impede the player but he can’t do anything about it, which I don’t understand.”
Dundee manager comments on Rangers pyro controversy
Dundee manager Tony Docherty has also been discussing the disruptions to play ahead of kick off – something which irked Philippe Clement – and claimed that it might’ve affected his team v Rangers.
The Dens Park boss was also asked about the use of pyrotechnics which forced both the Rangers and Dundee back inside the dressing rooms just minutes after kick off.
Claiming that it was disruptive for both teams, Docherty has also suggested the situation contributed to a stinker of a night for his team.
“It’s disruptive but I’ve got to say it’s disruptive for both teams,” said Docherty.
“We’ve got to make sure the boys are focused because we start the game. The 45 minutes (before the game), I’ve never known such a long delay.

“Our players were here on time, early, and that could be something because it didn’t look like my team tonight.
“Certainly going back in again when you’ve started a game and coming back out again, it’s difficult, but as I say, it’s difficult for both teams.”
Rangers dispatched Dundee at Dens Park courtesy of goals from Ryan Jack, Danilo, Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier to maintain Philippe Clement’s perfect Premiership start.
Dundee and manager Tony Docherty have slipped from 5th to 9th in a congested Scottish Premiership table after the result, with Rangers still five points off leaders Celtic in 2nd.
