Following the international break, Rangers return to action against Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

Symbolically, it’s a huge game for Steven Gerrard’s side, following their limp defeat to Celtic last time out.

Changes galore

One thing that’s near-certain going into this one, is that Steven Gerrard won’t pluck for the same tactics or team selection which flopped so badly in the Old Firm.

A combination of that, subsequent transfer business and injury doubts, is why we’ve predicted five changes for this one.

Rangers didn’t cover themselves in glory at the back against Celtic, with Connor Goldson’s stray pass leading to the opening goal and Nikola Katic looking shaky at times. As a result, Filip Helander may be handed an opportunity here.

Gerrard is unlikely to drop his vice-captain, so Katic could drop out, albeit with a view to playing the crunch Europa League tie against Feyenoord five days later.

At left-back, Borna Barisic is almost nailed on to start. Jon Flanagan is on the treatment table following a hernia operation and was something of a horses for courses selection against Celtic, anyway.

There could also be a change in central midfield. Ryan Jack’s knee injury may open up a spot, which could be filled by Andy King. This looks to be a perfect time for his Ibrox bow, with Joe Aribo unlikely to return from international duty until Wednesday afternoon at the very earliest.

The Return of Kent

Aribo filled the advanced left position against Celtic and that berth will be reserved for Ryan Kent this week. The 22-year-old winger signed on a permanent deal from Liverpool on Deadline Day and is near certain to start.

Finally, Alfredo Morelos will play up top instead of Jermain Defoe. The prolific forward was bizarrely benched for the Old Firm and wasn’t required by Colombia this week. He’ll be fresh and raring to go.
