Rangers winger Eros Grezda has been picked out by Wrexham in their ‘Match Preview’ [Wrexhamafc.co.uk], as the Colts’ key ‘threat’ ahead of Saturday’s Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup Quarter Final at Ibrox.

The 24-year-old has been frozen out of Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad since the summer, having endured a dreadful first season in Glasgow.

A mixture of injuries and poor form saw him turn out just 13 times following his £2 million transfer from Osijek [Scottish Sun], and since the beginning of this campaign, his only outings have come in Development XI or Colts fixtures.

Away at Ballymena United in an earlier round, he caused controversy by allegedly spitting on an opponent [Scottish Sun]. In the immediate aftermath of that incident, it was thought he would never represent the club again at any level.

However, following an internal punishment, he returned to Graeme Murty’s side and played a key role in the win over Solihull Moors which set up Saturday’s quarter-final.

With the Gers 3-1 down and looking set for the exit, Grezda popped up twice to extend the tie which Rangers eventually won on penalties.

It’s little surprise then that Wrexham have named him as one of two ‘quality’ opposition players in their ‘Match Preview’ [Wrexhamafc.co.uk].

Come Saturday, in what will be his first outing at Ibrox since a cameo against Hearts in April, the Albania international will be hoping to show he’s a level above the others on show.

Jamie Barjonas is the other player picked out by the weekend opponents. The 20-year-old central midfielder who recently signed a new contract [Rangers.co.uk] is described as a ‘real prospect’ and the Wrexham would do well to be wary of his long-range shooting ability.
