Rangers midfielder Andy King should replace injured Jack vs Hamilton

Around 60 minutes into Rangers’ disappointing 2-1 defeat to Young Boys on Thursday evening, Ryan Jack hobbled from the field with an injury.

After the game, Steven Gerrard confirmed that there was a genuine problem with the midfielder, but that at that stage, the medical team weren’t sure whether it was a calf or a knee issue [RangersTV].

Either way, Jack is pretty much certain to miss the league fixture against Hamilton at the weekend.

Likewise, Joe Aribo. The 23-year-old returned to training earlier this week sporting a head guard, but it’s unlikely he’ll be seen back on the pitch before the international break [Scottish Sun].

Therefore, Andy King’s prospects have increased significantly.

The 30-year-old joined on loan from Leicester City in August and so far has made just five appearances [Soccerbase]. All of those, have come from the bench.

With two of arguably Rangers’ first choice midfield trio on the sidelines, he’s surely likely to get the nod against Hamilton.

Rangers midfielder Andy King must be given opportunity

This is exactly the sort of circumstance he was signed for. After all, King is a 50-cap Wales international, with a Premier League winners medal to his name.

He’s the sort of player who should be able to slot into the Gers midfield and not just get by, but stamp his authority on Scottish Premiership fixtures.

Rather than dropping the off-colour Scott Arfield back into central midfield alongside Steven Davis and Glen Kamara, King must be given a chance to show what he can do on Sunday.

At home against one of the league’s weaker sides, he could really announce himself in style.
