Rangers take on Hearts in a 3pm kick-off at Ibrox this afternoon in the Scottish Premiership.
It’s the Gers’ final home league game until Boxing Day, with a trip to Hampden and a series of tough away games on the horizon, so it’s crucial that there’s no slip-up today.
Hearts enter the game locked on points with St Mirren and St Johnstone at the bottom of the table and without a permanent manager. Austin MacPhee continues as interim boss as the recruitment process rumbles on in the background [BBC Sport].
Following the hard-fought 2-2 draw at Feyenoord on Thursday evening, Steven Gerrard was always likely to make a couple of changes to provide fresh legs for this one.
In the end, he’s made just the two alterations, though.
In midfield, Ryan Jack drops to the bench for a rest, with Joe Aribo taking his place.
At the top end of the pitch, Sheyi Ojo drops out after a poor display in Rotterdam, with Scott Arfield recalled to the XI. Fans rallied around the Canada skipper earlier in the day after Gerrard revealed he’s battling an off-field issue [Daily Record], and it would be great to see him pull through for the Gers this afternoon.
Will this side be good enough to sweep aside the Jambos at Ibrox?
Rangers fans react to starting XI against Hearts
There was consternation with the team was announced in an unconventional way. The Gers Twitter admin used the same graphic as usual, but the lineup was announced in numerical order rather than in formation. Not only that, but Connor Goldson was referred to as ‘Goldso’.
The initial tweet was quickly deleted and an error-free version then posted, but the fans still latched onto the gaffes.
Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:
