Rangers have dropped a major hint that ex-Man United kid Charlie McCann could make an appearance in the Scottish Cup against Dundee by sending the midfielder out to the press.
Ahead of the clash with the bottom of the table Premiership side the Rangers B team stand-out faced questions on his ambitions with the club after an impressive season in the Lowland League.
Whilst doing the press is never a guaranteed inclination that a player will be involved in a match, it ordinarily drops a hint that whoever is speaking will be playing in some capacity.
For Charlie McCann, this would be his second appearance for the club since joining in the summer and ample reward for an impressive season with the Rangers B team to date.
The youngster was also a second-half substitute in the 3-0 win over Annan Athletic at Galabank in the last round and Charlie McCann spoke about being prepared ahead of the quarter-final clash.
“I feel prepared for the first team,” said McCann [Rangers].
“The level you train at with the lads every day is top level and I’ve been lucky enough to experience that for two or three months now, and I think that will have prepared me really well.
“It gets you to a level where you can be competing to get in the squad.
“For me, it’s about keeping developing and improving and pushing to get in the squad when I can.
“The cup fixtures are great opportunities for that and I’ve got to thank the boss for giving me opportunities like this.
“I’m always getting feedback, always being told what I’m doing well and where I need to improve things to try and get to the next level.
“Every day in training the senior boys like Davo (Steven Davis) and Aaron Ramsey are always giving feedback as well. They’re always there to help.”
Rangers drop Charlie McCann Dundee involvement hint
It all sounds like the 19-year-old is in line for an appearance against the Dee but it may well depend on how things go this afternoon at Den’s Park.
McCann’s appearance in the press also comes after the midfielder switched his international allegiances from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland this week.
Charlie McCann was a regular youth international for the south and the move was branded “unfortunate” by ROI u21s manager Jim Crawford [BBC Sport].
Fielding questions on the controversial switch, Charlie McCann claims he was convinced after speaking to the Northern Ireland set-up and is looking forward to the “adventure”.

“I spoke to the staff at Northern Ireland and spoke to some other people and obviously everything I’ve been told is really positive stuff,” said McCann.
“They’ve given me really positive feedback and told me all the things that obviously I want to be hearing so it sounds like it’s going to be a great adventure.”
Whilst we’re backing Charlie McCann to have some level of involvement v Dundee, does he make our Rangers starting XI for the match?
