Young Boys defender Frederick Sorensen has previewed this evening’s clash with Rangers, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.

The 6ft 4″ defender is currently on loan at the Swiss club from Bundesliga side FC Koln and boasts Juventus and Bologna as two of his former employers.

He says he’s looking forward to playing against Scottish opposition, especially as he watched both Brian Laudrup and Peter Lovenkrands playing for the Gers when he was a youngster.

Sorensen might not have personal experience against Rangers, but he has friends who pitted themselves against Gerrard’s side during the qualification stages.

“I have never played a Scottish team before,” said Sorensen, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times. “We know Gerrard of course. Rangers maybe have his mentality on the pitch.  They have become very aggressive. We are looking forward to playing against a Scottish team. It will be good.”

“I saw the game against Midtjylland, in the qualifier at home for Midtjylland. I have friends who play for Midtjylland. I talked with them.

“They said Rangers had a good mentality, a classic British team who come with a mentality and with a lot of physicality. We know we have to play like that.”

Verdict

It’s unsurprising that Midtjylland players spoke highly of Rangers, given they were defeated 7-3 on aggregate in the Third Qualifying round.

Surely, after Rangers’ Matchday One win over Feyenoord and the testimonies of the centre-back’s Danish friends, there’s little chance of Young Boys underestimating their opponents this evening.

Sorensen was clearly keen to find out as much as he could about the Gers, and he’ll be hoping to fare much better against Alfredo Morelos than Feyenoord’s loanee centre-back Edgar Ié.

The 27-year-old is a defender of decent pedigree, but in seven appearances for his adopted side, he’s contributed to just one clean sheet [Soccerbase]. That’s an encouraging sign.
