Gerrard should give January Rangers signing opportunity vs Kilmarnock

When Matt Polster signed for Rangers on the eve of the January window’s Deadline Day, it looked as though James Tavernier was getting some competition.

However, he’s barely been seen at all in a Rangers shirt. Three minutes at the end of the 3-1 victory over Hearts in April is all he’s been afforded.
Outside of that game, he’s only been named in Gerrard’s matchday squad on one other occasion. He was an unused sub in the 0-0 draw with St Johnstone in February.
Surely, against Killie in the last game of the season, he should get another opportunity.

There’s nothing tangible riding on this Rugby Park fixture for the Gers. They already have second place sewn up.

Therefore, there’s no better chance to give Polster a proper go. The pressure is off and it’s a chance for the squad to go out and express themselves.
A start might be a little too much to ask, but 20-30 minutes in the famous shirt would be bound to do him a lot of good.
Gerrard has stated that he sees the 25-year-old genuinely competing for a spot next season [Football Scotland]. If he can’t even get a go on a day like today, though, the player himself is bound to wonder whether or not that’s a realistic prediction.
