Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that summer signing Juninho Bacuna is set to be imminently handed his full Rangers debut.

The Curacao international and summer purchase from Huddersfield made his debut from the bench at the weekend as Rangers drew 1-1 with Motherwell.

Whilst it wasn’t a debut to remember for picking up three points, the player and fans alike will have been happy to see the Dutch-born midfielder finally get some minutes for the club.

Despite joining from the Championship club, Bacuna has had an interrupted pre-season but now Steven Gerrard claims he is beginning to finally get up to speed.

Not only that, but the Rangers boss also believes the player is beginning to better understand how the coaching staff want the Ibrox side to play.

“He’s looking more and more ready now,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“When he came in, we knew he hadn’t had a pre-season. He was training alone at Huddersfield.

“He’s got major talent. You could see some of the positions he picked up (against Motherwell), some of the little combinations he’s looking for.

“Okay, he might be looking at me and thinking ‘I want more game time’, which is a good place to be in.

“There’s going to be an opportunity for him very soon because he’s looking more ready now than when he first came.

“He’s fitter, he’s more robust and he knows a little bit more about our style and how we want to play now. So I think more opportunities for him are imminent.”

Having chased the midfielder since January, Rangers fans will be eager to see exactly why Gerrard and co were so determined to get the player to Ibrox.

The Huddersfield chairman has also been speaking in recent weeks about the details surrounding the deal with Rangers not paying any transfer fee for the player as things stand.
