Rangers winger Scott Wright has saluted former Ibrox midfielder Scott Arfield after his scoring in the Scottish League Cup win over Hearts at Hampden.

In his first strike since the Scottish Cup Final victory over Hearts in 2022, Scott Wright came off the bench at half-time to cooly slot low past Zander Clark in the Hearts goal to make it 2-0 on the day for Rangers.

It wasn’t just in scoring that ex-Aberdeen winger Wright impressed v Hearts, with the winger a constant menace in the eventual 3-1 win and even toasting his strike with an homage to Arfield in the celebration.

Now turning out for Charlotte FC in the MLS, Scott Arfield’s famous salute celebration still has a place in the hearts of Rangers fans after ending a five-year love affair with the club in the summer.

Taking to Instagram after the match, Scott Wright gave a small inclination into his adoption of the Scott Arfield salute by sharing a WhatsApp conversation between the two players.

Arfield was considered a real leader in the Rangers camp and that influence is still plain to see as he backed Wright to score anytime in the clash with Hearts.

Scott Arfield had initially shared Rangers’ post hailing “Hampden Scott Wright” on Instagram visa the stories section of the platform (05/11), adding “you’re welcome to it ❤️🫡” with regards the celebration.

Scott Wright then responded on his Instagram stories (05/11) saying “you called it” before sharing the WhatsApp chat with a conversation which reads as follows:

Arfield: “Scott Wright anytime.”

Wright: “Love ya mate, keep your eye out I fancy one of these tomorrow 🫡”

It’s quite the comeback for Scott Wright who only this summer looked destined to be heading for the Rangers exit under Michael Beale.

Infamously snapped in the airport heading to Turkey, ex-Rangers boss Beale had initially recalled Scott Wright before his sacking.

Since the appointment of Philippe Clement, the 26-year-old has been a routine feature of the Rangers side and let’s hope this goal kickstarts some more consistent form for the winger.
