Two Rangers stars have received Scotland call-ups for World Cup Qualifiers against Moldova and Denmark later this month, but a former Ibrox player has been dropped.

Jon McLaughlin and Nathan Patterson are the Gers representatives in a 25-man squad selected by Steve Clarke.

Patterson featured in both of Scotland’s Qualifiers in October, starting the home win over Israel and coming off the bench to set up the winner against the Faroe Islands in Torshavn.

When fit, McLaughlin is an automatic squad pick for Clarke, but the keeper hasn’t made an international appearance for over two years.

Former Rangers Academy starlet Billy Gilmour has also been included in the squad despite his lack of playing time at Norwich on loan from Chelsea.

There was no room for former Ibrox keeper Liam Kelly this time, though.

The 25-year-old made the squad in October but has been dropped for St Johnstone’s Zander Clark.

Clark kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Dundee United at the weekend, while Kelly let in six goals against a rampant Rangers at Fir Park on Sunday.

Scotland are currently second in Qualifying Group F. Denmark have already been confirmed as group winners but Clarke’s side are very close to securing a play-off spot as they are four points ahead of third-placed Israel with two games remaining.

In other news, a player who left Ibrox in June has been slammed by his current coach for a ‘weight problem’.
