Rangers duo Nathan Patterson and Lewis Mayo have made the Scotland U21 XI for Friday’s crunch UEFA Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic.

Mayo, who recently joined second-tier side Dunfermline Athletic on a season-long loan deal, starts at centre-back.

Meanwhile, Patterson has been handed the number seven shirt but is unlikely to be playing anywhere other than in his preferred right-back slot.

The 18-year-old is currently Steven Gerrard’s backup in that position, behind the skipper, James Tavernier.

Fellow Gers players Kieran Wright and Stephen Kelly have both made the bench.

Wright is currently on loan at SPFL League One club, Partick Thistle, and impressed in a pre-season friendly against Hearts last week, while Kelly is temporarily with Ross County, for whom he’s made five substitute appearances in the Premiership so far this season.

Ross McCrorie captains this U21s side and is technically only on loan at Aberdeen from Rangers at present, but the terms of the deal will see him permanently join the Dons at the end of the season.

The crunch clash against the group leaders, Czech Republic, gets underway at 5:30pm at Tynecastle and a win for the hosts would see them close the gap at the top of the table to a solitary point.
