Rangers legend Steven Davis will be offered the chance to join the Northern Ireland coaching set-up following his retirement from football.
The legendary Ulster midfielder announced his retirement from club and international football this week at the age of 39 following a devastating cruciate ligament injury.
A hero at Ibrox and at Windsor Park, a report in the Belfast Telegraph has claimed that Steven Davis will be offered the chance to join Michael O’Neill’s coaching team in the Northern Irish capital.
It comes after Rangers boss Philippe Clement admitted to Davis upon his retirement that the door was always open for a return to Ibrox in a coaching capacity.
Steven Davis offered Northern Ireland gig
The report claims that for the time being Steven Davis will spend some time with his family and prepare for his next move in the game.
The British men’s international caps record holder with Northern Ireland (140), Steven Davis will surely be tempted by the opportunity to work with the nation.
With an offer to return to Rangers also on the table, it’s clear the 39-year-old has options and it’ll be interesting to see which route Davo takes after a period of well-earned rest away from the game.
The Belfast Telegraph are also claiming that Steven Davis has been earmarked for a career in management, claiming the midfielder has “the qualities” and is seen as a potential Northern Ireland manager of the future.
Of course, Davis briefly managed Rangers on an interim basis following the sacking of Michael Beale, the legendary midfielder taking charge of clashes against Aris Limassol and St Mirren back in October.
Rangers legend tipped for management career
As one door closes, another opens and as Steven Davis reflects of his playing career opportunities are on the horizon with Rangers and Northern Ireland.
With Davo also set to undergo his coaching badges it’ll be interesting to see if the midfielder takes the club or international route into coaching.
A leader and legend for both Rangers and Northern Ireland, whatever route into management Steven Davis takes we’re sure we’ll see him back at both teams in some capacity in the future.

Also turning out for Aston Villa, Fulham, and Southampton in his career, Steven Davis is considered one of the best British players of his generation.
Don’t bet against the Ibrox Hall of Famer then going on to be on one of the best British managers of his generation too.
