There is some confusion surrounding the international situation of Rangers and Jamaica striker Kemar Roofe amid some contradictory reports in the press.
Jamaica manager Paul Hall had questioned the commitment of the ex-Leeds United striker in the press after the Gers forward had seemingly pulled out of the squad.
Kemar Roofe had missed the last round of international fixtures with an injury as he looked to get back into top shape for Rangers.
But a new report is claiming that far from the situation be a question of Roofe’s commitment to the Jamaica cause, the striker isn’t in the Reggae Boyz squad due to a “cost-cutting exercise”.
Ok, so let’s start with Paul Hall.
Here’s what the Jamaica manager had to say regarding players not being involved for Jamaica World Cup Qualifiers against El Salvador, Canada and Hondouras.
“I feel some of the reasons the players that pulled out have been disappointing and I’m not here about who has pulled out because there were plenty of reasons for me to talk about the ones who are and who want to be here,” said Hall [Jamaica Gleaner].
“Like I said before, this is about commitment and we can only move forward with those who want to help us and who want to be here.
“Let me be clear, we need to be committed as individuals and as a group, if we are going to start achieving things, if we are going to start moving up the rankings, start winning Nations Leagues, start winning Gold Cups.”
Rangers star Kemar Roofe not called up by Jamaica due to “cost-cutting”
Whilst Kemar Roofe isn’t directly named here by Paul Hall, it hasn’t stopped the Jamaica Gleamer report claiming that the comments were aimed at the likes of the Rangers striker.
Reports in Scotland have naturally followed suit.
But according to The Voice, all may not be as it appears with Jamaica potentially cutting World Cup travelling costs given their Qatar 2022 dream is already over.
“England-based Hall, who has lost his opening four games at the helm by employing pretty similar defensive tactics to the axed head coach Theodore Whitmore, has controversially shaken up his squad,” claims the site.
“Hall, who is employed as the U23 head coach at Championship outfit QPR, will use these three contests to try to prove the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) that he is a real contender for the role on a permanent basis.
“His choice of players could let him down, and it would not be a surprise if his original selection was trimmed by the JFF as a cost-cutting exercise.
“Jamaican fans are not exactly ecstatic about these forthcoming matches being promoted with so much enthusiasm by the JFF.
“They are bombarding social media platforms with negative comments, and that was before the latest squad was announced on March 21.”
Whatever the case, Rangers fans will just be happy to have Kemar Roofe fit and firing ahead of the upcoming Old Firm with Celtic next weekend.
The Gers forward has shown signs recently that he is getting back to form after a run of frustrating injury problems.
