Rangers talisman Alfredo Morelos coud be set for a major opportunity with Colombia against Algeria on Tuesday evening.

It’s been confirmed that fellow striker Duvan Zapata, who picked up a knock against Chile on Saturday, has been forced to withdraw from the squad and return to Italy.

The 6ft 2′ target man who is on loan at Atalanta from Sampdoria, has three goals in 15 caps for the national team and lead the line ahead of El Bufalo at the weekend.

This paves the way for Morelos, who came on for his crocked teammate at the weekend, to earn just his second international start.

It would be a big reversal in fortunes having been left out of the squad altogether for the Copa America during the summer.

Ahead of the game, coach Carlos Quieroz has hinted that changes will be made.

“We cannot continue with the mentality that if one is missing we will start crying,” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “Now we have to think about Algeria and when it comes time to make decisions, we must evaluate the options and choose.”

“The Colombian national team is an open house for everyone. I make the decision on who plays and I do that on merit.”

Morelos has to be near the top of the pile when it comes to merit, having already scored 14 goals for Rangers in 2019/20.

Given that Algeria won the 2019 African Cup of Nations, they will present stiff opposition, and it’s a big chance for El Bufalo to show what he’s capable of.
